John Abiodun, an Ondo based pastor has been sent to jail being found guilty of perjury by the Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure.

Abiodun lied against the founder of Promiseland Prophetic Ministry, Shasha Akure, Pastor Gbenga Akinbiyi, that seven placentas were planted on the church’s altar and he had earlier sworn an affidavit before the commissional for oaths on this matter .

He disseminated this false publication via some christian WhatsApp groups and other social media platforms.

The convict and Professor Lanre Olu-Adeyemi who doubles as a group admin in one of the Whatsapp group where the false information was published and a lecturer at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko Ondo State were arraigned on eight counts which Abiodun was later found guilty of five.

Professor Olu was however discharged and acquitted as the court said the report gotten from the investigation of the police on the matter proved his involvement shoddy.

The judge, Justice Bode Adegbehingbe said in law, anyone found guilty of perjury an offence punishable under section 118 of the Ondo State Criminal Code law is liable to a life or 14 years imprisonment ; but he had mercy on the convict and reduced his jail term to two years because of the pleas by his Counsel, Mr Olanrewaju Adesanmi.

Meanwhile, the prosecuting counsel, Mr Kayode Dare; expressed satisfaction with the judgement, saying the court had vindicated Akinbiyi and other members of his church.
