CHURCH OPINION: Easter celebration; what should i remember during Easter?

By | April 21, 2019

Easter is one of the greatest feast of the church, it commemorates the resurrection of Jesus. Easter Sunday is also called pascha or Resurrection Sunday.

Easter starts with Lent on Ash Wednesday, 46days before Easter Sunday, though the date changes every year.
This celebration is not without some special programmes in various churches. Mostly, foods and drinks are not excluded from the plan.
This week on church opinion, we will look into what this season symbolises and what believers do during this period, let’s read from our respondents.

Opinion: Easter season helps us to bring to remembrance the resurrection of Christ. To me, this season is more than cooking rice and chicken, we should know what Jesus did for us. The bible says while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. We should let Christ know that we are for him by preaching the gospel.

Name: God’s Joy
Opinion: Whenever it’s easter celebration i do remember the body and the blood of Christ. And i feel something strong towards receiving the lords supper in my church, the washing of the feet and most interesting the message on good friday that drives my heart towards Christ over and over again. In fact easter is a sweet season to me, the songs of the choirs on Easter Sunday is that which points at Jesus and the Grace brought by his resurrection is worth celebrating.

I celebrate this season with other brethren by going to church programmes and of course eat something good. Whenever Easter season is here we should always remember heaven.

Opinion: Easter is a wonderful season that brings joy to my heart because it is a celebration of Christ Himself. Whenever we celebrate Easter, amidst the jubilation we should always remember Jesus because He alone is the reason for this season.

Glory to God!

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John has the account of the trial, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Though the purpose of Easter has been moulded by most believers, many have exchanged it’s significance to mere celebration of food and wine neglecting the main reason for the season which is Jesus.
One common thing in the accounts was that ‘it was the will of God‘. It is evident that it pleases God to release Jesus as a propitiation for the sins of mankind that through Him we should receive reconciliation with God.

When Christ released Himself to the will of the Father by enduring the pains and shame of the cross He was doing it because He wanted to put an end to the enmity that existed between God and Man since all have sinned and come short the glory of the lord. Having known that God cannot behold iniquity He took upon Himself the sins of the whole world so that all shall be saved by His life.

What then is the purpose of Easter?
When we remind ourselves of something, it means we are to take note to fulfil the requirements of those things. Celebrating Easter should remind us that :

  • Someone paid for the freedom we now enjoy.
  • The reason for the payment is to reconcile us to God.
  • We can only be reconciled when we believe with our heart and confess with our mouth the lord Jesus who paid the huge price.

Never loose sight of the purpose of Easter as you celebrate.

God bless you!
