The Prosperity Of The Soul

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and [that your body] may keep well, even as [I know] your soul keeps well and prospers. (3 John 1:2)

We started a series on Spiritual Balanced Diet last week. We have been able to establish that man was created in the image of God. That is, just like the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in the Godhead, man is also in the like manner, soul, body and spirit (heart). Today, we are going to be talking about the Prosperity (wellness) of the soul.

God the Father has the heavens as His throne (i.e He lives in heaven) and no man has ever seen him (Isaiah 66:1; John 1:18). In relation to man, we can say God the Father is the Soul (Mind) of the Trinity.

It is written, No man has ever seen God at any time; the only unique Son, or the only begotten God, Who is in the bosom [in the intimate presence] of the Father, He has declared Him [He has revealed Him and brought Him out where He can be seen; He has interpreted Him and He has made Him known].(John 1:18). Jesus, God the Son, came in the body to reveal God to us. He interpreted the “mind” of the Trinity to us. Jesus was the body and voice of the Trinity. “And the Word (Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us; and we [actually] saw His glory (His honor, His majesty), such glory as an only begotten son receives from his father, full of grace (favor, loving-kindness) and truth.”(John1:14). He came to reveal the Father to us. Jesus is the physical being of the Trinity.

Jesus was not just a body giving expression to the Father, He had also the Spirit in Him. The Bible says, “Yet to us God has unveiled and revealed them by and through His Spirit, for the [Holy] Spirit searches diligently, exploring and examining everything, even sounding the profound and bottomless things of God [the divine counsels and things hidden and beyond man ‘s scrutiny].” (1Corinthians 2:10). It is the Spirit of God that searched out the will of the Father and thus led Christ to the wilderness after His baptism.

In like manner, no one has ever seen the soul (mind) of any man. It is the physical body that interprets and makes the mind known to others. The body brings the inner man (soul) to where he can be seen. For instance, if I have it in mind to play football, no one can see the intentions in my mind except my body gives it expression by talking about playing football or and physically playing it. Also, man is not just the body and soul but also has a spirit, which is the heart of man. “For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:11). The spirit of man knows the desire of the mind. Just as the Spirit of God searches all things, even the deep things of God, the heart (spirit) of man equally searches out the desire of the mind. It is the spirit of the man that connects with the Holy Spirit to get necessary nutrients for the well being of the soul. If the soul doesn’t desire the things of God but the pleasure of the world, it’s still this same spirit that brings to the soul what it desires. Whatever nourishment the soul craves for, his spirit brings. If it craves for God, the spirit brings divine nourishment that builds up the soul. But if it craves for the world then worldly nourishment that leads to the expression of negative characters and emotions. A man becomes what he feeds his soul with.

A soul (mind) being in an healthy state is determined by how much he cares for spiritual food. The Bible says ” Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]”. Romans 12:2.

God’s will for man is for his soul (mind) to be spiritually healthy. He desires the prosperity of our souls. Our souls can be well when we refuse to take poisons like immorality, drunkenness and all forms of worldliness. Instead our mind can be renewed by God’s Word and thus resulting to the transformation of the man. Just as the body takes necessary nutrients to gain energy and grow, same way the soul can be renewed by the right kind of spiritual meal.

During the baptism of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, not the spirit He had as a man, led Him to the wilderness. Man must come to the point that the Spirit of God will come upon him (Holy Spirit baptism), so he isn’t just controlled by his own spirit (heart) which is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse {and} corrupt and severely, mortally sick! Who can know it [perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind]? (Jeremiah 17:9) but now led by the Spirit of God. This Spirit of God helps the man to search the deep things of God so that he now knows the good and perfect will of God.

Everyone that would receive the Spirit of God would be able to know the acceptable will of God. Are you reading this and you are still living a life that shows that your soul isn’t well, then you need the Spirit of God. A man can only receive this Spirit when he is born again.

Are you willing to be born again, that you may be partaker of the Spirit of God?
Please pray this prayer;

Lord Jesus, I know I’m dead because of sin.
I believe you died for my sin and resurrected for me to live.
I accept you today as my Lord and personal Saviour.
Now, I believe I am born again.

Thank You Jesus for saving me. Amen
